Fashion Fridays hosted by Twenty Two is back again... this time it's bigger & better & WARMER!! FASHION FRIDAYS has found a temporary home for the duration of winter at The Grayscale Gallery in Braamfontein so please join us for another fun evening of beautiful SA fashion, drinks, music & mingling.

For those of you who still don't know... "Fashion Fridays" is a celebration of South African fashion design, art, food & music hosted by Twenty Two.

Guest fashion designers from across the country are invited to exhibit at Twenty Two as part of a night shopping experience all in the name of supporting, loving & buying local fashion. The event takes place on the first Friday of every month and has already grown substantially.

The event is scheduled to take place from 6pm til about 10pm.

Drinks and food are available and the event is open to all who share the ideology of supporting local fashion design.

We jump started our long weekend with our friend Amy from Lost and Found 's b-day drinks at the Sandton Sun hotel. They've got this awesome roof deck with a view for miles and we sat around the bonfire & chatted & sipped cocktails like it was the middle of Summer. If you haven't been there yet, it's a must visit. If you have ever been to the events in Cape Town, you'll know that Kool Out Lounge is all about the music, the people, dress codes aren't that important and mostly they are about having a good time. The line up is great and features some of Pink Lyte's favourite DJ's Raiko and Kenzhero.

Following the success of the launch of the monthly ‘Fashion Fridays’ last month Twenty Two is planning another wonderful evening of music, drinks, food and most importantly local South African designer fashion for another fun-filled night shopping experience.

Guest fashion designers from across the country are invited to exhibit at Twenty Two as part of a night shopping experience all in the name of supporting, loving and buying local fashion. This time they are doing something for the boys and have invited some of the most exciting local menswear brands and designers to exhibit such as Simon Deporres, Babatunde, Adriaan Kuiters, Sylvester Fallata as well as a whole range of t-shirts from Bam Bam such as Mingo Lamberti, 2Bop and Marchand.

Fashion Fridays usually takes place once a month on the first Friday of the month but this month Twenty Two have decided to have it on the Friday 8th April in line with the start of SA Fashion week which will also be taking place in Braamfontein at the Shine Studios just a few streets away.

This event is open to everyone who loves and is keen to support local fashion – just don’t forget to wear at least one locally produced or manufactured item.

Festivities start at 5:30 – 6pm til about 10pm.

Cash bar and food will be available so come join us, have some yummy sundowners and shop up a storm!!

Inspired Ingenuity & Alex Nash

Intercity recently commissioned sneaker customiser Alex Nash (aka NashMoney) to create a piece of artwork as part of the Inspired Ingenuity project.
As we’ve mentioned previously, the project revolves around a competition that Havana Club are running based on the theme of ‘Inspired Ingenuity’; a reference to the spirit of the people of Havana, who pride themselves on their ability to create what they need from what they have. The competition is taking place over the first six months of 2011, challenging artists, musicians and other creative talents to takes the everyday and turn it into something special. A winner will be picked each month, and the final winner will win a trip to Cuba.
To help promote the competition, Intercity commissioned three artists to create a piece of work that takes the everyday and turns it into something special – and as we see sneaker customisation as its own form of Inspired Ingenuity, Nash was an obvious choice as one of those artists.
The brief he was given, as with the competition itself, was to take the everyday and turn it into something special. His answer was to transform a pair of all-white Nike Air Force 1’s into a fully functional set of 'Sneaker Speakers'.

On Tuesday evening MTV Base Africa said thank you and welcome to a new year to all its clients and friends by hosting a cool chilled out event at The Venue in Melrose Arch. Over the years, many a blog post have been dedicated to our love of N*E*R*D but we never thought in a million years we'd ever get to be so close to them & have the (now) duo playing live in our backyard at Standard Bank Arena. What a cool night! What a great performance! We love how they performed a healthy dose of old & new & Pharrel's constant lick-lipping and heavy eye contact with EVERY SINGLE WOMAN in the crowd left us all in a mild state of paralysis by the end of it all. So sorry if you weren't there... we were... and we have it all here for you:-) Thanks Hansa for a great night (even though we still think it tastes yucky we love you for making our dreams come true!)

Last Thursday we were invited to the launch of the new show on VuzuTV called 'Nonhle Goes to Hollywood' and we weren't about to miss it because there's nothing that gets the Pink Lyte crew to a party faster than the words "Secret Location" and "Open Bar". It's starring former Channel O 'O-Access' presenter and Dark & Lovely poster girl Nonhle Thema. The party was pretty average with live performances by Jozi and Liquid Deep but we made our own fun (as usual). Looking forward to the show though.

The road to The Met began rather amusingly with a plane filled with South Africa's who's who. From Jen Su announcing as she boarded the plane how heavy her hat was, to Kuli Roberts making us crack up and cringe as she teased anyone and everyone who could be teased, the plane ride literally set the tone for the entire weekend - fun, madness, laughter, over the top insanity as well as the birth of a new celebrity 'Speedy's Towel.' So this year the J&B Met theme is Larger Than Life and all we can think is Eeek! Larger can be epically beautifully or tragically Texas terrible, but I guess we'll have to see what happens when we get there won't we.

Taking place on Saturday 29th January 2011 at the Kenilworth Racecourse the event promises an odd 50 000 or so party starters and known for generally being the hottest day ever, our wardrobe plans feature mostly short hemlines and light easy to wear dresses, although after checking out some of the pictures from last year's event, we think we might be a bit under-dressed...

Or maybe we won't be under-dressed... Maybe we'll be dressed...

Burlesque is actually Coyote Ugly with better costumes. Christina Aguilera sure can sing (and we reckon that she should have her hair in a short bob with bangs all the time), but it’s more fun trying to watch Cher make facial expression with that face of hers. Besides all the cool costumes - not as amazing as Chicago though - it was also quite fun to watch Mc Steamy, yes Eric Dane is in the movie and he’s totally hot.

Takers’s has been out for a while and all we have to say about this movie is that if you want to drool through an entire movie over sexy men - watch Takers. Good Lawd this movie has a cast of delicious looking men - Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen, Jay Hernandez, Michael Ealy and T.I. sorry Matt Dillion, but you don’t make the cut. The movie itself is actual quite kak and you can watch it on mute, but who cares with so many genetically blessed men in one movie.

For the record - this was NYE so it's a little wilder than usual but if you're ever thinking of going to a small skiing town called Kitzbuhel in Austria make sure you visit the 3 coolest bars (which turn into clubs sometimes): "Highways", "Flannigans" & "The Londoner"... in that order. You'll be guaranteed a throbbing head & a lot of new unidentified FB friends by the next morning. xx

What a year it's been for the girls of Pink Lyte... Vie opened a store in Braamfontein called Twenty Two, Nomi fulfilled a life long dream and embarked on a trip to the South of France to go to culinary school and Thithi went solo and pulled herself back into the fashion industry.

We didn't party as much as we have in previous years because we were working hard and Friday's became our day of rest, but there has still been some mad love for Pink Lyte - with press releases coming our way and invitations to cover events as bloggers and we appreciate that. Next year we going to do it bigger and better with a relaunch, so watch this space and show us some love on Facebook and Twitter.
